Running for the Real Superheroes
At RLA Global, we believe in making things happen. This November, that means 42 kilometres through the streets of Athens in a superhero costume.
A cause that touches us all
Cancer research is one of the greatest collective endeavours of our time. Behind every breakthrough is a team of scientists, doctors and researchers running the longest race of all, with every step bringing humanity closer to a world where this disease no longer defines lives.
Few people go through life untouched by cancer in some way. It crosses every border, every background, every walk of life. The progress made by Cancer Research UK has been remarkable. Survival rates in the UK have doubled in the last fifty years. That progress is the direct result of funded research. It does not happen without support.
The initiative came through David Harper, advisory board member at RLA Global and chair of Hospitality Beats Cancer, a movement bringing the hospitality industry together behind cancer research. The RLA Global team felt this was an important initiative to be part of. We want to support it.
Why Athens
Our team will run the Athens Classic Marathon on 8 November 2026. Athens is where the marathon was born. In 490 BC, Pheidippides ran 42 kilometres from the battlefield of Marathon to deliver one message: we won. He delivered it with everything he had.
That spirit of endurance, faith and the belief that every effort counts feels exactly right for cancer research. No single donation, no single study, no single year wins the race. Like any marathon, it is accumulated distance, step by step, each one essential.
Our Runners
Roger Allen, our Group CEO, will be running as Batman. Simon Saunders, our VP of Strategic Health and Wellness, will be running as Robin.
Hear directly from Roger why this cause matters and why he is prepared to run 42 kilometres in a cape.
Please support us
We are asking our friends, colleagues, clients and the wider hospitality community to donate to Cancer Research UK. Every pound funds the research that moves the world closer to a cure and brings hope to many.
