So far, January 2022 has thankfully left us cautiously optimistic, as we are starting to see the impact of the pandemic settle, however, the seismic events of the last 2 years will continue to have a major influence on the evolution of the hospitality industry. Hotel development does not appear to be slowing down but is instead adapting to the changing psychology of our consumers. Here are 5 trends that we predict will be influencing the hospitality industry in 2022.

1. Experience Analysis

2021 saw the expedition of digital technology, with apps and QR codes supplementing traditional guest services. Hotels have always been data rich but access to this huge wealth of metrics will lead to smarter mapping of customer decision making. We will see data being used, not just to help plan traditional revenue streams but, also to help shape the products and services around guest movements and touchpoints.

2. Meaningful Holidays

Travel will need to offer more than just a break in the sun, after 2 years of having to stay at home, people are looking to make their holidays meaningful by fully embracing an experience-led getaway. Whether that is an intense adrenaline-fuelled experience or an immersive wellbeing offering, there is no doubt the ‘Experience’ will be at the forefront of any travel plans.

3. Regenerative Travel

A step up from sustainable travel, regenerative travel acts smarter and greener than its 2021 predecessor. Guests want to see more than a commitment to future change and will expect active maintenance of the current resources and action taking place now.

4. Hybrid Hospitality

The lines between hotel, leisure and remote working will continue to blur and we expect an even greater expansion of the Bleisure market. The consolidation of remote working and the ongoing uncertainty around travel restrictions will provide destinations that supply the opportunity of extended vacations with the security of remote access infrastructure.

5. Community Hotels

More than just an offer of free wifi in the lobby, Lifestyle hotels will aim to target more than just the traditional guest by throwing open their doors and offering unique and personal services to attract in their local community.
